Read and capture

Read

Open a document, then hand it to any tool. Nothing is uploaded: the work happens on this device.

About Read

Opens a PDF to read, with zoom that redraws sharply, find, the document’s own contents, night mode, a list of its comments, print and read aloud. Read aloud uses only voices on your device, so the words are never sent away. Then hands the document to any tool.

How to use it

  1. Add the PDF; it opens straight away, after its password if it has one.
  2. Use + and − to zoom, Contents to jump to a chapter, and find to search the words.
  3. Tap Night for a dark page, or Read aloud to hear it from where you are.
  4. Tap Then to hand the document to another tool, such as Compress or Sign.

Good to know

Zooming redraws the page at the new size, so small print stays sharp instead of blurring. Contents shows the document’s own bookmarks, if it has any, and Comments lists the notes, highlights and other marks people have left, so a reviewed draft can be read point by point.

Print draws each page as a picture on a sheet only the printer sees, which works the same on any browser. Read aloud uses only the voices installed on your device; where there are none, it says so rather than send the words to an online voice service.

Night turns the page dark with light text, easier late at night. A scanned page has no words to find or read aloud until it has been through Make searchable.

Questions people ask

Why does read aloud not work?

It uses only voices installed on your device. Where there are none, it says so rather than use an online voice.

Does it work offline?

Yes, once the site has loaded. See PDF tools that work offline.

Is my document uploaded to be shown?

No. It is opened and drawn by your browser, on your device.

Can I send the document to another tool?

Yes. Tap Then and pick the tool; in most browsers the document goes straight to it, without saving in between.
