Summarise and translate
Key points or a translation, by the AI on your own device. Nothing is uploaded: the work happens on this device.
About Summarise and translate
Gives a PDF’s key points, or translates it, using only the AI built into your browser, on your device. So far that is found mainly in recent Chrome on a desktop or laptop. Where a browser has none, the tool says so and does nothing, rather than send your document to an online AI.
How to use it
- Add the PDF; its words are read on your device.
- Press Summarise it for the key points.
- Or pick a language under Translate into and press Translate it.
- Copy the result from the box when it is done.
Good to know
A long document is summarised a part at a time, and then the parts together, so even a long report comes down to one list of points. The summary is the browser’s own reading, and can miss or blur a detail: for anything that matters, such as a clause or an amount, check the document itself.
Translation works in parts too, and the text fills in as each part is done. The tool works out the document’s language where the browser can tell, and otherwise treats it as English. Whether a pair such as English to Malayalam is offered depends on what your browser supports on your device, and it says so when one is not.
This tool reads words, so a scanned PDF needs Make searchable first. The result is plain text in a box, not a new PDF; paste it into an email, a note or a document of your own.
Questions people ask
Why does it say it is not available?
Your browser has no built-in AI. Your document is never sent anywhere else to make up for it.
Which languages can it translate into?
English, Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Marathi, Arabic, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese and Chinese, where the browser supports them.
Why is the first run slow?
The browser may download its own model once. After that it runs on your device.
