PDF to Excel
Tables and statements into a spreadsheet you can add up. Nothing is uploaded: the work happens on this device.
About PDF to Excel
Turns tables in a PDF into a spreadsheet, with rows and columns worked out from where the words line up and amounts as real numbers. A bank statement comes out as one sheet across all its pages, with the account details and summary on a second sheet. Check the totals before you rely on them.
How to use it
- Add the PDF, or several, and type the password of any locked one.
- Leave Read scanned pages too ticked if the file is a scan or a photo.
- Press Make a spreadsheet.
- Open the .xlsx and check the totals against the PDF before you use them.
Good to know
What you get depends on the document. A table that runs on from page to page with the same columns, such as a statement, becomes one sheet called Table, with its column headings once at the top. Separate tables on separate pages each get a sheet named after their page, with the lines outside them (a payslip’s Net Pay, an invoice’s amount in words) on a last sheet called Text, so nothing on the pages is lost; a PDF with no tables at all comes out as its lines of text, one per row.
Amounts arrive as numbers, so sums, filters and sorting work at once. Details printed above a statement, the summary box at its end and any other lines go on a sheet called Other details, rather than being mixed in among the transactions.
Columns are worked out from where the words line up. On a tidy layout that is exact; on a crowded one, a value can land one column over, or a long description can split across two rows. Checking the closing balance catches either. Each PDF becomes its own spreadsheet; to get one, Merge the PDFs first.
Questions people ask
Does it work with bank statements?
Yes. See bank statement PDF to Excel.
My statement has a password. What do I do?
Type it when the file asks. The password is used in your browser and never sent anywhere.
Can I get a CSV?
It makes an .xlsx; any spreadsheet app saves that as CSV.
Does it read a scanned statement?
Yes, with Read scanned pages too ticked. It reads English text and is slower; check every figure it read.
