About Pages per sheet

Lays 2, 4, 6, 8, 9 or 16 pages on each sheet for printing, on A4 or Letter, with the sheet turned whichever way shows the pages biggest. It saves paper for handouts and notes, and puts two small pages, like the sides of an ID card, on one sheet.

How to use it

  1. Add one or more PDFs.
  2. Choose how many pages go on each sheet: 2, 4, 6, 8, 9 or 16.
  3. Choose A4 or Letter for the sheet.
  4. Press Lay it out, then print the result at actual size.

Good to know

The sheet is turned to suit the pages: two upright pages go side by side on a landscape sheet, while two wide slides go one above the other on a portrait sheet, so they print larger. Pages run left to right and then down, in a grid of two by two, three by two, four by two, three by three or four by four. Each page is scaled to fit its place with its shape kept, so nothing is cut off or stretched.

Smaller pages mean smaller print. A4 pages two to a sheet stay easy to read; at 4, ordinary body text gets small, which is fine for slides and handouts but hard going for a dense contract, and 9 or 16 suit a quick overview of a long deck. Print one sheet as a test before printing a whole bundle.

In the print dialog, choose actual size or 100% rather than fit to page, so the layout is not shrunk a second time. Pages are laid out in plain reading order: this tool does not reorder them for folding into a booklet.
