About PDF to Word
Turns a PDF into an editable Word .docx, working out headings, paragraphs, lists and tables from where the words sit. Scanned pages can be read too, more slowly. Photos come along where they stood, page numbers and running headers are left out, and fonts become their nearest Word font.
How to use it
- Add the PDFs to convert; if one is locked, type its password in the box under it and tap Unlock.
- If some pages are scans or photos of paper, choose under Scanned pages: keep them as a picture of the page, turn them into editable words, or both.
- Press Make a Word file.
- Save the .docx and open it in Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice or WPS Office.
Good to know
The converter reads where each word sits on the page and works the structure out from that: large or bold lines become headings, lines with bullets or numbers become lists, and words lined up in columns become a real Word table. A clean, typed PDF comes out close to the original; one built from columns, text boxes and overlapping shapes may need tidying.
Photos, logos and other pictures come along in their place, cut from the page as it looks. Page numbers and a header repeated at the top of each page are left out, so they do not land in the middle of your text, and a sentence the page break cut in two becomes one paragraph again. For a photo at its full stored quality, take it out with Extract images.
Scanned pages are read by a text reader that comes from this site the first time it is needed and then runs on your device. It reads English only, works best on straight, sharp pages, and is much slower than a typed PDF. Check names and figures it read before you rely on them.
Questions people ask
Will it look exactly like the PDF?
Close, not identical: Word flows text where a PDF fixes it. Complex layouts may need tidying.
Can it convert a scan?
Yes. By default each scanned page goes in as a picture, exactly as it looks, which suits a passport or a certificate. Choose Editable words to get its text instead: the words a scanner already hid in the file are used, otherwise the English text is read from the picture. Check names and numbers either way.
Only need to fix a word or two?
Edit text changes the PDF directly and keeps its layout.
How do I get a PDF back after editing?
Use your word processor’s Save as PDF, or Word or Excel to PDF.
