About Edit text
Tap words already on the page and change them, or find and replace a word everywhere. The old words are painted over in the page’s colour and the new ones written in the nearest built-in font; in a table, one cell at a time. The old words stay underneath, so to hide something for good, use Remove areas.
How to use it
- Add the PDF, typing its password if it asks.
- Tap any outlined words on the page; tables are outlined cell by cell.
- Change the words in the box above the page.
- Open Find and replace to change a word or number everywhere at once.
- Press Save the changes and save the new copy.
Good to know
Each change paints over the old words in the colour behind them and writes the new words in the same place and size, in the closest of the PDF’s built-in fonts. Amounts and dates keep their right edge, so a changed figure still lines up in its column, and the ink colour is read from the print, so black stays black.
The old words are not deleted. They sit under the paint, and anyone who copies or searches the text can find them. That is fine for correcting a typo or updating a date, and wrong for hiding anything: for that, Remove areas takes the words out of the file.
New words in English letters keep the line’s weight and style, bold or plain, serif or not; words in Malayalam, Hindi or another script go in as a picture of the words. A decorative font is replaced by a plainer one, which can show when you change one word in the middle of a line, so changing the whole line often looks better. For a long rewrite, PDF to Word is the better route.
Questions people ask
Can I edit a scanned PDF?
No. A scan has no words in it, only a picture of them. Write over it with Add text.
Does find and replace change parts of words?
No. It matches whole words and numbers, so 5,000.00 is not found inside 15,000.00.
Can people tell it was edited?
Often not at a glance, but a close look at the font, or copying the text, can show it. Edit only documents you have the right to change.
